Guys And Dolls
A musical fable of Broadway by Frank Loesser
Guys and Dolls is a fun musical with great songs and an interesting bunch of characters.
It is a human portrait of Broadway, New York in a time long gone.
A world of big and little shot gamblers, nightclub entertainers, and a variety of jokers and eccentrics
just ripe for conversion by the determined members of the local Mission.
The colourful Damon Runyan characters, played by our enthusiastic cast, unfold the story of the "floating crap game"
along with the romantic sub-plots that you would expect from a great Broadway hit musical.
Our Mission band may well remind you of the Salvation Army that work tirelessly to spread the good word
and in so doing provide help and assistance to people in need all over the world.
I'd like to personally thank the Australian Salvation Army for helping us with the hard task of costuming the show
- as always they have been most generous when finding a group of people "in need of assistance".
So to all the Salvos who continue the tradition of making sure they are active in places of need - Keep up the good work.
This show reflects the energy of the 'younger' members of our society, and while a few of us 'old timers' are along for the ride,
I think you will agree that the essence of this show is youth.
Yet again we have seen a number of new players join the society through our auditioning process -
which in this show has resulted in the introduction of two new leading ladies to grace the DMS stage.
To develop this show we also put together a team of youth in Phil, Alan and Mandy.
Alan Hui has previously been involved with musical direction for the society, but for Philip O'Connor and
Mandy Winter it is their first time as director and choreographer respectively.
We wish them well.
The performance you will see today reflects not only the skills of the actors but the dedication of a fantastic
team who have worked tirelessly to get the set built and painted and the costumes made and fitted.
On behalf of the committee I would like to say a special 'thank you' to that wonderful group of people.
